How to Use a Business Web Site
A web site will help people find you when they are looking for you. If you have a business named "Rupert's Mulch Weed Tea" and someone searches Google for "Rupert's Mulch Weed Tea", you'll likely lose that business if you don't have a web site. The site must exist before it can be found.
If a client wants to recommend your services to a friend, they can e-mail the web address to their friend.
Do your customers always have the same questions? If so, create a Frequently Asked Questions page.
Do you have forms your customers will need to fill out? Let them download them on-line before they come in.
If you have a calendar, put it on-line.
If you run promotions, put them on-line.
Post your hours of operation.
Use your site to help people get to know you personally, with photos and a short biographical sketch. Make sure your site reflects your personality.
If a customer gives you a compliment, ask them if you can put it on your site.
Start a blog giving advice in your area of expertise. You can help your customers and show them that you know what you're talking about.
